Esteban is a postdoctoral researcher and previously a “Juan de la Cierva” fellow who has been working at the NaN since 2022. He is currently focused on identifying functional biomarkers of early attentional and memory alterations in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) using electroencephalography (EEG). Additionally, his research has evolved toward a multi-dimensional approach, addressing EEG studies that combine an eye-tracker system with neuromodulation techniques, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), to understand the psychophysiological mechanisms underlying memory enhancement. With respect to clinical populations, Esteban conducts neuromodulation sessions to explore the therapeutic potential of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to reduce motor and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease and fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis. His versatile profile allows him to contribute to a wide range of projects at NaN, including neuropsychological assessment in clinical populations and the coordination of clinical trials. He has also served as a lecturer in Basic Psychology courses and is currently the secretary of the Spanish Society of Psychophysiology and Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (SEPNECA). Finally, since completing his PhD in Psychology in 2020, he has established international collaborations with the University of Rome Foro Italico, the University of Bologna, and the University of Minho (Braga, Portugal) through his international research stays.
